Bio-inspired Materials and Design

Welcome to the Hatton Lab at the University of Toronto! We’re an interdisciplinary group, interested in adapting ideas from biological examples to engineer novel materials and surface structures. We seek to design smart, active surfaces, using methods of lithography, templating and self-assembly.

Our group works on surface wetting, adhesion, biomaterials, microbial biofilms, biointerfaces, smart materials, self-assembly, and microfluidics. Applications include antimicrobial surfaces, non-fouling materials, smart medical devices, active building facades, and active adhesion.
